Each year the world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Believers and non believers alike will gather together on this day and exchange gifts. The more you think about it, the more staggering it gets. Even though we have taken God out of the schools, our children will get the day off to celebrate his birth.
Born a humble birth, he lay in an animal feeding manger. Not the ideal conditions for the creator of the universe. He experienced the limitations of humanity. He knew what it was to be hungry, thirsty, and tired after a day’s hard work. He knew what it was to laugh and cry. He knew what it was to be misunderstood, abandoned and rejected. He experienced loneliness like no other person ever has.
Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a crude wooden cross over 2,000 years ago.
Jesus made a powerful and radical statement about himself. He said:
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the father but by me.
So when he willingly laid his life down on the cross, he was opening the way for us to have a relationship with God.
When Jesus spoke to the religious leader Nicodemus, He told this high ranking religious leader that he must be born again, in order to enter the kingdom of God. There was nothing that this man could do to earn his salvation, because Jesus had paid the price with His shed blood on the cross. Here is what Jesus said to this man:
There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him. Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Do you want to go to heaven when you die? Do you want to have a relationship with God, and know that your sins will be forgiven? Here is what you must do:
1. Realize that you are a sinner in need of a savior. We are ALL sinners. Yes, that includes you and me. If you are honest with yourself, you will admit this truth.
No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a good person. That is because we are all sinners and we all fall short of God’s desire for us to be holy. To show us that we cannot become who we are supposed to be without Jesus Christ, the Bible tells us:
There is none righteous, no, not one.
2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
The Bible tells us:
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
This is the Good News, that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we least deserved it.
3. Repent of your sin.
The Bible tells us:
repent and be converted.
The word repent means to change our direction in life. In military terms, this is an about face! Instead of running from God, we can run toward Him.
4. Receive Jesus Christ into your life.
Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church on Sunday. It is having Christ Himself take residence in your life and heart. Jesus said,
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
You can do this right from where you are sitting right now. Just bow your head and say a prayer something like this; Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I am a sinner, and I have sinned against you. I turn from my sin now, and I accept you as my Lord and my Savior. I believe you died on the cross for my sins, shed your precious blood so I could be saved, and that you rose again on the third day. Thank you for loving me.
If you prayed that prayer, and meant it from your heart, you are going to heaven. Your next step is to find a sound bible teaching church.
